Make it special for the specially abled- Building designs in Ahmedabad revived
People with special needs have a reason to rejoice, since now across Ahmedabad it is mandatory for buildings to have disabled-friendly designs. It was at the seminar which was organised by the esteem Handicap International, where it was learnt and understood how important it is to have such designs, and that the onus should be on the Ahmedabad Urban Development Authority (AUDA) and the Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) to issues notifications on bringing the same into immediate effect
Sources from town planning at AUD say that the new regulations of AUDA makes it mandate to have buildings with amenities for the specially abled, and should be within AUDA and AMC limits. The infrastructure as such should be conducive for those who have physical disabilities, and hence constructions should be planned accordingly with ramps in place, colour codes on flooring and the new guidelines followed extensively as well.
Even The Gujarat State Road Transport Corporation (GSRTC) has pitched in to bring 15 new modern and state of the art bus stations, which would have infrastructure on the same lines to help those with physical challenges. For example, signboards in Braille and the use of thick letters to help, announcement systems on a trip, railings on ramps and washrooms meant for the specially abled too.
