Malls to be under tax net in Bangalore
In a move to generate more revenues for the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP), a new proposal has been forwarded to garner an additional Rs. 140 crore by bringing malls under the tax net. The 107 malls in the city would be divided into groups on the basis of area they cover in sq. ft. and an expected Rs. 11 crore can be collected from these malls.
Also in the pipeline is to look into the revenue that could be collected from multi-storeyed apartments, commercial complexes, IT parks, wedding halls, hospitals, educational institutions that have eluded the tax net so far.
In a stern statement, Commissioner M.K. Shankarlinge Gowda also expressed the desire to drive out corruption from the revenue department and has resolved to take a firm step on the officials being deputed due to violating the Karnataka Cadre and Service Rules.
