Mapusa Bus Stand Tenders its First Phase of Constructon
The tender for the first phase of a new bus stand that is to be constructed in Mapusa was floated. The bus stand is to be built on a 20,000 square metre of land on the southern side and adjacent to the existing KTC bus stand.
First Phase of Construction:
The first phase of construction for the Bus stand at Mapusa which was tendered by the government will include the building of a retaining wall around the acquired land and filling up the low lying area. The total estimate of the first phase project amounts to Rs.1.32 crore.
A span of 6months has been allotted for the completion of the first phase and will be executed by the Goa State Infrastructure Development Corporation (GSIDC).
Second Phase of Construction:
The second phase will comprise of a 25 metre wide road which will be constructed on the Southern side of the bus stand. It will run from the bus stand to join the national highway-17 which is approximately 200 metres before the Mapusa – Bastora junction situated near Tarir.
The construction of the road is supposedly the main highlight of the whole project. The road will help in bringing in traffic from the NH-17 including the Mumbai buses and subsequently decongest the Mapusatown by as much as 70 per cent.
The estimated cost for phase II project will be worth Rs.1.97 crore approximately and tenders for this phase is expected to be floated in about 2 months.
Third Phase of Construction:
- The third phase will comprise of a new and modernistic bus stand.
- Conversion of the present KTC bus stand into a parking lot that will be able to accommodate as many as 500 cars.
- Half of the existing bus stand will be an open parking lot while the other half will offer a multi-level plot (ground plus two systems).
- There will be parking areas for 2 and 3 wheelers.
- Construction of a 9 metre wide road (North-South) on the eastern side of the new bus stand.
Benefits of the Project:
The road which is to be constructed under this development project in Phase II is a part of the outline development plan and land acquisition. The said road will also have parking bays to accommodate more than 100 trucks.
