Margao Municipality gears up for fast recovery of tax arrears
Faced with poor recovery of tax arrears, the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) has decided to gear up for fast recovery of the dues.
MMC has drawn up plans to constitute two teams – one each for Margao and Fatorda – to expedite the recovery process. The teams would comprise of a supervisor and a couple of municipal workers and they will be given a daily target for realization of the arrears.
The civic authority has issued demand notices to several hundreds of house owners who have accumulated huge arrears of house tax. The owners were given a 15-day period to clear the bills.
Now ‘Warrants of distress’ will be issued against the defaulters. The warrants of distress will empower the MMC to attach the property of the defaulter equivalent to the due amount in a bid to recover the outstanding dues.
