Masterplan 2031 a breath of fresh air for Varanasi
Varanasi Development Authority (VDA) District magistrate and Vice-Chairman Pranjal Yadav has announced that the Varanasi Masterplan 2031 is likely to be effected from Tuesday. He had presented the plan to CM Akhilesh Yadav on Friday.
The Masterplan incorporates proposals for the city’s future development, and also highlights the shortcomings of the 2011 Masterplan. The 2011 Masterplan had proposed widening of 26 roads in the Old City area, not a single one of which was widened. This dissuaded planners from taking on new road-widening projects.
VDA also failed to ensure planned development at places where land was demarcated for various purposes, thereby leading to an eventual conversion to residential areas in the new Masterplan.
Taking into consideration past hurdles faced, the town and country planning department made fresh proposals for commercial activities. The majority of these activities have been suggested, keeping the proposed ring-road in view. However, the state government has not yet considered bringing the ring-road project to the floor.
The Masterplan has also proposed relocating existing transport areas and and bus stands along different highways to reduce traffic load in core areas of the city.
