MC imposes property tax on residential properties
The Chandigarh Municipal Corporation has finally started the exercise to impose property tax on residential properties in the city.
The accounts wing of the corporation has wrote to 25 government departments and organizations besides housing societies to submit details regarding their residential accommodations in the city within a period of one month.
The information has been sought from Chandigarh Housing Board (CHB), estate office, banks, LIC, PGI, Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Government Multispecialty Hospital (GMSH), BSNL, CSIO, AG offices, PF offices and various housing societies among others.
The pressure of imposing the house tax on residential property has been increasing on the civic body authority as after UT administration, the Government of India has also started pressurizing for imposing tax.
Otherwise authorities will have to put up with the deduction in grants of developmental works being given by GoI under Jawahar Lal Nehru National Urban Renewal Mission (JNNURM).
