MC keen to develop residential complex at Manimajra
The Municipal Corporation (MC) of Chandigarh is contemplating the development of a residential complex at Manimajra. An area measuring around 6 acres would be provided for the purpose, with basic civic amenities. Later, a decision would be taken on whether a group housing project to be started or plots are to be auctioned. The area to be developed called Pocket 6 is near the Housing Board light point behind the showrooms at the NAC market.
Adjoining Panchkula, the piece of land is covered with wild growth and is lying unused. The civic body has planned that the area be cleared and a residential complex built.
The proposal to spruce up the area has been sent to the UT Architecture Department for clearance.
To begin with, a sewerage system, roads and water pipelines like basic facilities would be provided on the plot. Thereafter, the Municipal Corporation would plan the kind of housing project they would have in the area.
“The proposal has been sent to the Architecture Department. Once the proposal for developing a residential complex in the area is approved, then after taking the General House into confidence a decision would be taken on the kind of housing that would be provided here”, said by MC Chief Engineer S S Bida.
When the civic body was formed, it was short of funds for execution of any project. Municipal Corporation was able to add around Rs 200 crore to its kitty only after the auction of sites for a hotel and a housing project.
The money was put in fixed deposits and it was pointed out during the approval of this year’s budget that some installments of the grant-in-aid were not received from the Administration and the money in fixed deposits was decreasing.
A senior official said that when there is a shortage of funds the civic body generally auctions properties. A decision would be taken soon on whether an auction is required to be held.
