MCG fails to meet tax target
The Municipal Corporation of Guragon (MCG) has conceded that it will fall way short of achieving property tax target it has set for itself in the current financial year.
The MCG aimed to collect Rs 500 crore this year. However, even after six months it has barely managed to collect only around Rs 50 crore and in all probability it will fail to go anywhere near the target.
MCG sources say that the four zonal taxation officers have been given a target to collect Rs 10 crore as property tax every month. However, the ZTOs have failed miserably.
The reason cited for the dismal collection is the discrepancies in the property tax assessment. The residents who have raised objections regarding the tax assessment have refused to pay tax until their issues are fully resolved.
