MERC orders to Supply Power to Group Housing Societies in Bulk
The Maharashtra Electricity Regulatory Commission (MERC) ordered for the power distributors in Mumbai to supply power to the Group Housing Societies (GHS) in bulk. Also to consider GHS as franchise which also has many possibilities for common power consumers. MERC has made a mandatory rule for the power suppliers to sign a franchisee agreement including all residential colonies, commercial buildings and multiplex malls and also the single-point consumers; railways and defence forces. The faults and damages are taken care of by the society.
Power expert Ashok Pendse reported saying that the registered franchise power suppliers and also housing societies consume less power henceforth the state can adopt bulk buying facility to aim a zero or no load shedding scenarios. In case the society fails to submit bills, the power supply will be disconnected from the department. The only fear is that every consumer in the society have to promptly pay if not the whole society will have to suffer.
