Mumbai metroThe metro project was launched in May 2011 and the civic body is planning to complete the viaducts and stations by 2014 as there was a delay in the project by six months.

The City and Industrial Development Corporation (Cidco) is constructing the metro rail project between Belapur and Pendhar.

The civic body has started fixing the pillars. The metro is ready with 42 pillars with foundations out of 320 pillars. The Rs 2,111-crore project runs via 11 stations touching Kharghar and the distance between Belapur and Pendhar is 11 kms.

The Cidco officials are planning to run the metro rail on trail basis by December 2014. Cidco managing director Tanaji Satre, said that a metro project normally needs four years to be funtional but they are planning to complete it in three and half months as there are no problems on the ground.

They have already started with the construction work on seven metro stations and the construction of depot will start this month. In another four months developer for rolling stock like signaling, trains and tracks will be in place. It is planned to extend the metro line till Khandeshwar near the proposed Navi Mumbai airport from Taloja in the next phase. The metro will accommodate up to 2250 passengers at a time. The metro will have four to six couches.
