Metro from PCMC to Swargate gets nod from PMC
The proposed metro corridor between Pimpri-Chinchawad and Swargate got a green signal from the Pune Municipal Corporation’s (PMC) standing committee.
Corporates from Satara Road has demanded to extend the metro corridor to Katraj, accordingly the standing committee approved the demand. Mahesh Pathak, Municipal Commissioner, stated that to install the metro project in Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad they need to form an SPV per the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) report.
Pimpri-Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has informed the PMC that the first corridor is ready between PCMC and Swargate. Hence they want the approval to form SVP from PMC. The distance between PCMC and Swargate is 16.59 km. Of which, 7.15 km would pass through Pimpri-Chinchwad and the remaining 9.44 km would pass through the Khadki Cantonment and PMC areas. PMC decided to drop the first corridor and start with the work on second corridor where PCMC is not at all involved.
Now, both the civic bodies have decided to start the work on first corridor and form an SPV to implement the metro project as a whole. The organization agreed upon a pro-rata formula for calculating the total expense, where both the companies will be contributing 10 percent of the total project.
Before, the actual PMC ranking panel authorized a resolution proclaiming that the PMC along with the PCMC will contribute 5% each of the total cost of the project. However, management within the PCMC insisted that they will contribute only 5% share of the metro route cost that runs within the PCMC limit.
The PMC planned to construct the second metro corridor that will run from Vanaz to Ramwadi covering a distance of 14.9 km elevated route which was approved by state cabinet in June 2012. The state government decided to follow the DMRC model, where the state and Centre will contribute 20% each and PMC will contribute 10% of the total project cost. The civic body asked the PMC to form an SPV, which would raise the remaining 50% using various options like public-private partnership, build-operate-transfer and implement the project. Five year has been set as the deadline for the project.
