Namma MetroThe construction work on the Swastik-Yeshwantpur stretch of Reach 3 of Namma Metro has picked up pace after the Indian Railways gave a nod on November 31 last year.

The Swastik-Yeshwantpur line was about to get functional by December 2012 which did not happen due to some hurdles faced by work on the Metro Bridge for over two years since 2010.

Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) requested that trains of the Indian Railways to slowdown to a speed of 15 kmph when they pass under the bridge.

The Swastik-Yeshwantpur line is the longest known span in the Namma Metro project which is extended up to 67 meters. It is located close to Malleswaram road bridge and has a ground clearance of 11 metres from the railway track.

According to sources, around 120 workers are busy in the bridge work and they are enough confident of finishing work on the span by April, much ahead of the May 31 deadline. An official at the site said that they have customised the construction work because of the curves and length of this corridor that passes over the railway tracks.

The span blocks are prepared at the Namma Metro casting yard facility and then aligned to each other at the location. But for the Swastik-Yeshwantpur line they have adopted on-site construction by pouring concrete in three phases and eventually conduct testing for its load bearing capacity.

Another official at the site said that to ensure safety of the workers, galvanised sheets have been placed under the superstructure and also to ensure that no construction debris falls on the trains passing below. The metro work have all the safety norms in place.
