MMC’s waste pick-up plan in disarray
The ambitious project taken up by the Margao Municipal Council (MMC) seeking the door-to-door collection of garbage, now seems to be in disorder with the project mostly failing to elicit assistance from the city residents.
As being admitted by the civic body itself, sanitary workers have to face hostile conduct from many households and also that timing of collection waste was not proper at places. Public bodies have raised concerns over the MMC’s plan to charge garbage collection fees from households in the form of a component of house tax which may have triggered hostile reaction from the public.
The failure is contributed also to abortion of the survey when in 2009, the MMC had planned and started conducting a physical verification of houses with a view to re-assessing residential units, which however was aborted abruptly.
