MMRDA to construct a bridge to reduce traffic congestion
The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has completed the tendering process for constructing the estimated R245-crore creek bridge between Mankoli and Motagaon on the Ulhas creek, it said in a statement.
The construction of this 1,266 metre long bridge is expected to commence soon and is slated to be complete in three years. The bridge will connect the National Highway-3 (NH-3) with the Kalyan-Dombivali Municipal Corporation area and will also provide connectivity between NH-3 and Kalyan bypass.
The project is expected to benefit the far-off eastern suburbs of Mumbai Metropolitan Region. This creek bridge is said to reduce the traffic congestion on the NH-3 and NH-8. The traffic will be diverted directly via Kalyan Ring Road-Katai Naka-Badlapur-Karjat-Hal Link Road to Khopoli (NH-4) without having to go through Mumbra, Kalamboli and Panvel.
The traffic problems have been increasing in Mumbai. It is being expected that after the construction of this bridge the congestion problems might lower down. However the constructional work is being said to take up three years to meet completion stage. The work is expected to start soon.
