Modi lays foundation stone of Sheva SEZ in Navi Mumbai

At his first public function in Maharashtra after taking charge as the Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi laid the Foundation Stone of Jawaharlal Nehru Port Trust Special Economic Zone (JNPT SEZ), at Sheva in Navi Mumbai.

Modi also laid the Foundation Stone for the project involving the widening of Port Connectivity Road from JNPT to the National Highway. Project Affected Persons were symbolically handed over land the allotment letters by the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister was welcomed to the public function by Nitin Gadkari, the Minister for Road Transport, Highways and Shipping. Addressing the huge gathering of people at the function, Gadkari said that the JNPT SEZ will unfold an employment opportunity for nearly 1.5 lakh people.

The gathering was also addressed by the Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan.

Meanwhile, in reference to the Sheva SEZ, Modi highlighted the significance of the ports sector, and said that ports can become gateways to the country’s prosperity.

Modi also said that the Government is concerned at the large number of SEZ projects which are presently stalled across the country. He added that a high-level team has been constituted to review the issues because of which the projects are held-up, and resolve them as soon as possible.
