No Comments Sub Category:Mumbai,Realty News Posted On: May 10, 2012

The Maharashtra government, plans to implement the recommendations of the Asthana Committee in the rental housing project.

The project involves construction of 5 lakh flats in Mumbai Metropolitan Region (covering some areas in nearby districts) and giving them out on rent. The rent for these flats is expected to be Rs.800 – Rs.1,500.

The rental housing scheme had been conceptualized long back, and Asthana Committee was set up to give suggestions to improve the project.

The Maharashtra Chief Minister, Prithviraj Chavan has discussed the report by MMRDA Commissioner, Rahul Asthana, on improving the project. There are certain suggestions in the report related to the size of the flats, manner of allotment of those flats, FSI and many more.

According to the report, the size of the flats has to be increased from 120 sq ft to 320 sq ft. However, this change could be implemented only in the flats whose construction hasn’t been started yet.
