More roads along Mutha River
The high court has approved the plan for a 3.2kms road along the Mutha river and now the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) will go ahead with the development work along the riverside.
The civic administration is planning to construct more roads along the river side to lower down the traffic congestion.
River safety as well as route design tend not to contradict each other plus the PMC will place new routes down the river to help smoothen traffic flow. NGO Jal Biradari members circulated ‘charter of rights and demands of rivers‘ that focuses on the circumstances of rivers and plan different ways to fix it.
The charter adds that due to uncontrolled increase, rivers in the city have been encroached which disrupts the river flows. To put a halt to this destruction, there needs to be a thorough evaluation of rivers, ponds, nullahs, tributary bed and basins and the no-development areas and specific zones with comprehensive assistance of people.
The high court rejected the construction plan of the riverside road from Mhatre Bridge to Jayantrao Tilak Bridge. A group of environmentalists had gone to court requesting to stop the road construction work as it is pollution the Bhima river.
