Mukherjee Nagar, an Ideal Home for Students
An educational hub located in North Delhi, is the prominent locality of Mukherjee Nagar. As the area is in close proximity with Delhi University’s north campus and educational core of Vishwavidyalaya, a number of students from colleges such as HansRaj, SRCC, and Hindu Ramjas are interested in moving here.
Mukherjee Nagar boasts of brilliant connectivity to other parts of the city. It is connected to other areas with the help of MG road, which lies to its south, while Najafgarh dam runs along the north-east of the locality. Two metro stations located within a three-km radius, namely GTB and Model Town, connect the locality to areas in southern and central Delhi.
As the neighbourhood is one of the oldest in north Delhi, it has well-established schools and health facilities such as Rosary Senior Secondary School and Rajan Babu Institute of Pulmonary Medicine and Tuberculosis. People from all over the country also come here for the civil service coaching centres that the locality has in plenty. Mukherjee Nagar caters to the student population with the presence of a number of green parks, recreational, and entertainment facilities. The locality’s infrastructural provisions such as Wonder Smile Dental Clinic and Nulife Hospital can be accessed by the locals, as well as those from surrounding areas.
These factors have contributed to the rising demand for property in this micro market, especially in the form of apartments. Maximum requirement of apartments is in the form of three and four BHKs, although there is supply of one and two BHK apartments as well. A one BHK typically costs Rs 5,000-7,000 for 500 square feet, and a two BHK costs about Rs 7,000-10,000 for 900 square feet. 2,000 square feet of a three BHK would cost Rs 20,000 to 40,000, while 4,000 square feet of a four BHK costs between Rs 25,000 to 80,000. There are also PG accomodations available between the prices of Rs 6,000 to 12,000 per month.
However, there are some recurring neighbourhood issues relating to water, sanitation, and roads. As the student population in the locality has drastically increased over the past few years, this has led to the inevitable strain put on resources and facilities in the area. The roads are quite narrow and a lack of parking spaces have led to roadside parking, which hinders the smooth flow of traffic. The space crunch is being counteracted with new infrastructural projects that are being undertaken here, which will eventually lead to better development to add to the locality’s worth and potential.
