Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train likely to get a push in 2014 Railway Budget
Railway officials in Mumbai are hopeful that Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s new government will give a push to the first Mumbai-Ahmedabad high-speed train proposal in the 2014 Railway Budget — the first rail budget of the Modi government.
The projections voiced by the Mumbai Railway officials about an expected push to the Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train in the 2014 Railway Budget are largely based on the fact that Modi had promised a diamond quadrilateral of bullet trains for connecting India’s four metropolitan cities — Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata and Chennai.
The proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train will be a high-speed train which will boast a maximum speed of 320km/h. The train will cover 534km distance between Mumbai and Ahmedabad in just two hours.
According to the Railway officials in Mumbai, a lot of brainstorming has gone into taking the proposed Mumbai-Ahmedabad bullet train project forward because it involves Modi’s home state of Gujarat.
The proposed train will most likely start at Bandra-Kurla Complex in Mumbai, and will run through Thane (near Diva) and Palghar via Virar, before following the existing alignment in Gujarat; halting at Surat, Vadodara and Ahmedabad. The station location in Ahmedabad has not been finalised as yet.
As per one of the officials, the feasibility report of the project is expected to be completed by Japan International Consortium by 2015.
