Mumbai: CM’s quota misused big time by prominent politicians
Some heavy weights in politics are going to face the wrath of the Maharashtra state government soon. The state government has prepared a list of 26 people, including prominent politicians, who will face action for occupying more than one flat under the chief minister’s quota by producing false affidavits.
The state found 52 such cases of multiple allotments, but will initiate action against 26 as of now. The state government filed an affidavit in the Bombay high court, naming former ministers and legislators as well as a deputy speaker of the assembly and an MP for securing multiple allotments. Most of these allotments were sought in their wives’ names.
The state has decided to frame a policy to bar such allotments in future. The allottees’ affidavits mentioned that neither they nor their spouses owned a flat. Such an affidavit is necessary before obtaining a flat under the CM’s quota. Owning more than one house in either the spouse’s name or a son aged below 18 is not allowed as per the regulations of CM’s quota.
This is a high level scam and many more names are expected to come out if the investigation continues. The next hearing is on September 9.
Flats under the CM’s quota are allotted under 5% and 2% schemes. Under the 5% quota scheme, sources said, 32 allotments were made in 16 names. The state plans to take back 16 allotments and file an FIR against beneficiaries of two flats.
