Mumbai roads facing cave-ins

Comments(2) Sub Category:Mumbai,Municipality Posted On: Sep 25, 2012

Old and decaying underground utilities have worsened the road conditions in Mumbai as many of them have been suffered cave-ins recently.

Pedder Road, Dr E Moses Road and Dr Annie Besant Road are among those roads who have witnessed cave-ins and portions of the roads have collapsed.

The Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) do not have the technique to test the condition of the underground pipelines, many of which have corroded over the years.

The BMC officials conceded that roads of the island city ran the risk of facing collapses for at least three more years, as a solution could be arrived at only after the project to overhaul the city’s colonial-era drains got over.
