Nasscom to set up incubator to nurture start-ups in West Bengal
In Kolkata on Friday July 18, the West Bengal IT Minister, Amit Mitra offered Nasscom a 10,000 square feet of “ready” space to set up its first incubator in the region. Mitra stated that this space has been allotted in the IT township of Sector V in Salt Lake.
The space will be provided by Webel (the West Bengal government’s electronics arm). Once the facility becomes operational, an additional 2,500 square feet of space will also be allotted to the incubation facility.
Mitra while speaking at the Nasscom Product Conclave in Kolkata requested Nasscom to provide venture capitalist and angel investors also to the incubation facility. The minister also invited Nasscom to mentor the upcoming IIIT Institute in Kalyani, West Bengal. The IIIT is expected to be operational from August 2014.
Nasscom has sought support from the West Bengal government to set up an incubator to nurture and facilitate start-ups. The government is ready to provide all the support which is needed to set up such ventures which is expected to create jobs for the youth of the state.
R Chandrashekhar the President of Nasscom mentioned that the incubator will facilitate and nurture start-ups thereby creating entrepreneurship. Speaking during the Conclave, Chandrashekhar had urged the state government to help set up an incubation facility in West Bengal.
