National Highway soon to link Mewat, economic boost likely
Haryana’s Union cabinet recently took the decision to connect Nuh, the district headquarters of Mewat, to link it with the national highway.
The backward regions of southern Haryana, including Mahendragarh, may get the economic boost with the improved connectivity. Presently, the nearest highway to Nuh is NH-919, which is about 21km away from the town. In Narnaul’s case, the nearest national highway (no 352) is 53 km away.
In the words of a highways ministry official, “We will soon notify the existing road connecting the NCR towns as new national highways. Now, the Centre will be responsible for the widening and maintenance of the road.”
The Centre has two options to proceed with the implementation: It can either bring the road under National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) or can engage the state public works department (PWD) to manage it with financial assistance from the ministry.
The cabinet has approved the proposal to convert 149 state roads to National Highways totaling 7,200 Kms.
