Navi Mumbai airport land acquisition nears resolution

Three of the five dissenting villages have raised no objection to the compensation being offered by the government in return for acquiring their land. But, there are riders. The impasse over land acquisition for the Navi Mumbai International Airport (NMIA) may be close to getting resolved.

35% of developed land along with a cash component while the Maharashtra government is offering 22.5% of developed land as compensation were demanded by Five of the total 18 villages whose land was to be acquired for the new airport.

Senior officials from Cidco (City and Industrial Development Corporation) are calling it a major breakthrough as the project affected parties (PAPs) are not demanding additional land as compensation.

Cidco told Fe, “They have raised some issues which are minor. They have no issue on the 22.5% developed land part, which is important,” V Radha, joint managing director.

To explain the compensation package being offered to them by the government, Sanjay Bhatia, vice-chairman and managing director, Radha and other officials from Cidco, had met the Pargaon gram panchayat representing three villages — Pargaon, Dungi and Kolhi — on Tuesday

They kept few conditions before Cidco, which need to be fulfilled before they agree on the compensation package being offered said the two of the office bearers in the Pargaon panchayat.
