In some good news for Chandrababu Naidu, the Andhra Pradesh government has been told by its revenue department that more than 45,000 acres of degraded forest land, largely encroached by locals and small industrial units, are available in the surroundings of Vijayawada for building the new capital.

The chief minister, who has received the report, is likely to announce the details in the assembly on Thursday. On Wednesday, Naidu held a series of meetings with the capital advisory committee, headed by municipal minister P Narayana and comprising experts in urban development, to give finishing touches to his announcement on the new capital.

The CM will make an announcement about these lands in and around Vijayawada and seek opinions of the MLAs. There will be a detailed discussion if the opposition cooperates said a minister.

The decision of situating its new capital in the Vijaywada region has been taken in an assembly meet. The decision on where to seat its new capital was pending from a long time. Finally the decision has been taken jointly by the ministers of the state.
