New radio-identification tag technology to be replaced with toll booths

In three weeks from now, you can enjoy the drive from Delhi to Mumbai without having to stop at tollbooths thanks to a unique radio-identification tag. The road and highways ministry plans to start the interoperable radio frequency identification (RFID) tag-based Electronic Toll Collection (ETC) system on one lane of the 1,419 km-long stretch of the Delhi-Mumbai highway, which passes through Rajasthan and Gujarat.

A driver will just have to stick a unique RFID tag priced at ` 250 to his car’s windshield and the ETC will automatically deduct toll whenever the car passes through a tollbooth. There are 18 toll plazas on the Delhi-Mumbai stretch, which is part of the Golden Quadrilateral. A ministry official stated that the will start it anytime after September 20. The RFID tags, which will be available at tollbooths and ICICI Bank branches, are interoperable.

The new system of radio-identification tag will help towards the benefit of the people. This would also relieve the pressure in the traffic that is often got too faced due to the toll booths. This technology is sure to help the people.
