New reforms in the Transport Sector: Gadkari
The new transport minister Nitin Gadkari took charge on Thursday and his first step was very clear. He does not want to regulate the roads sector with any new regulators because it will increase corruption and will start the licence-permit game again. He stated that his topmost priority is to bring about changes in the road and transport system.
He also mentioned that he is driving his Ministry officials to speak with the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) officials and clear the bottlenecks which have stopped or slowed the 50 on-going road construction projects.
Gadkari took an hour long meeting with his ministry officials where he did stock taking of the current projects. He evaluated the current performance and the challenges faced by the project owners resulting in delays in completion of the projects. He was also apprised about the interest and escalation cost due to delays. The project executors also requested easing the exit policies and the transport ministry is now preparing cabinet notes to look into this issue.
Gadkari’s ministry and he are determined to resolve these issues and improve the transport system and road infrastructure in the country.
