1 Comment Sub Category:Community,Municipality,Realty News Posted On: Oct 17, 2011

Gandhi Salai and the East Coast Road are one of the highlights of the new face of Chennai. While Rajiv Gandhi Salai, popularly known as OMR, is the face of the Chennai’s software sector, the  East Coast Road is a destination preferred by the tourists. However these two places are afflicted by various civic problems. The area is afflicted by a host of problems in the zone. Problems range from water supply to drainage to street-lights. Such was the plight of the region that the citizens happiness knew no bounds when it was announced that the region will come under the periphery of the Chennai Corporation.

Earlier the Solinganallur zone was merged with the Chennai Corporation as the previous civic body was just not equipped to handle the crisis. Residents are now keeping their fingers crossed hoping that their problems will be finally looked upon scrupulously.

Semmanchery has thousands of tenements built by Tamil Nadu Slum Clearance Board and around twenty five thousand are under construction. While Kannagi Nagar in Okkiam Thoraipakkam has some fifteen thousand slum board tenements, an additional six thousand are under construction. The region has witnessed a boom in the population due to the relocation of families to slum board tenements. The region presently has around 1.4 lakh voters. Though their is concern among the dwellers that the influential pockets of the area might get an advantage, there is hope and optimism alongside majority of the people that their woes will finally be taken care of.
