New smart city to act as a counter magnet to Chandigarh
The third satellite city is going to come up around the city of Chandigarh; however the government of Punjab last Wednesday stated that New Chandigarh will not be another parasite on the Corbusian Chandigarh but it will be the state’s first smart city. The building of a satellite town will help in the further development of Punjab.
When the finance minister of Punjab, Parminder Dhindsa presented the budget for the year 2014-2015 during the state assembly on Wednesday, an amount of Rs 1,218 crore was already allocated for the project so that residents in the new city do not have to turn to Chandigarh to meet their needs. This will act in speeding the start up for the development of the smart city.
The Punjab budget document, wiser with an experience clarifies that the city will be able to be a self contained city and will not act as a satellite town of Chandigarh. In fact it will be ready to act as a counter magnet to the city of Chandigarh. The city is said to be developed on an area of around 15,000 acres on the concept based on smart cities.
