New target for property tax inspectors

In order to increase revenue from property tax, Nagpur Municipal Corporation has set new targets for revenue inspectors across 10 zones. Property tax inspectors have been directed to identify 75 new properties each that are not being taxed in their zones in this financial year.

According to a senior official, Laxmi Nagar zone has 16 inspectors, Dharampeth (9), Hanuman Nagar (17), Dhantoli (5), Nehru Nagar (13), Gandhibagh (11), Satranjipura (8), Lakadganj (13), Ashi Nagar (10) and Mangalwari (10).

As per NMC’s records, the city has 4, 57,344 property owners, including 4, 03,383 residential and 53,941 non-residential. In 2011-2012, the property tax department collected Rs125 crore against target of Rs165 crore. This year’s target is Rs250 crore.
