New update on Adarsh Society Scam

Adarsh apartmentTwo accused in Adarsh Society scam were granted bail by the CBI special court. Those two accused had been in custody since their arrest on April 3, had filed their bail applications on Monday.

In the bail application the lawyer has said that all the offenses are punishable for less than 10 years and therefore the CBI ought to have filed the charge sheet within 60 days from the date of his production before this court.

As CBI has failed to file the charge sheet within the stipulated 60-day period, the two person were granted the bail.

All the accused have been charged with criminal conspiracy under IPC and various sections under the Prevention of Corruption Act and Benami Transactions (Prohibition) Act.

The scam pertains to alleged irregularities in construction and allotment of apartments in Mumbai, in the 31-storeyed high rise. The Adarsh apartment was originally meant for families of Kargil war heroes, in the upmarket Colaba area in south Mumbai.
