
D Venkatesh Murthy, Mayor inaugurated a new waste segregation unit near Mathikere, in north-west
Bangalore which can hold 4-5 tonnes of waste after segregation.
The centre is built at a cost of Rs 65 lakh and to prevent spreading of foul smell in the neighbourhood. They have also constructed a compound wall surrounding it.
BBMP is also thinking of opening more centres in other wards to reduce the garbage load on landfills. As of now, 13 waste segregation units are being operated and maintained by the resident welfare associations and BBMP.
The civic body will hire employ pourakarmikas to maintained the waste segregation unit in Mathikere to segregate items like plastic, paper, sanitary waste and wet waste.
