NHDP to upgrade 1,370 km National Highways in Odisha under Phase III, IV and V
Under Phase III, IV and V of the National Highway Development Project (NHDP), approximately 1,370 km of National Highways (NHs) in Odisha will be developed into four and six lanes.
The Odisha NH projects which will be upgraded to four lanes under Phases III, IV and V of the NHDP include 112-km stretch of the NH between Cuttack and Angul; 153-km long Angul-Sambalpur stretch; 126-km Birmitrapur- Barkot segment; 133-km Chandikhol-Duburi- Talcher stretch; 80-km of the Balasore-Baripada-Jharapokaria segment; and 80-km of the Baharagora-Sambalapur Road.
For six-laning, three projects will be taken up in the mentioned phases of the NHDP. These projects include 138-km Balasore-Chandikhol stretch of the NH; the 181-km Bhubaneswar-Ichhapuram stretch; and the 77-km Chandikhol-Paradeep road.
According to the information shared by sources familiar with the upgradation of Odisha National Highways, the upgradation costs are estimated to be nearly Rs. 13,000 crore. The upgradation work on all the projects for four- and six-laning will be commenced soon.
Noting that a total 2,370-km of NHs in Odisha has been taken up for upgradation under the NHDP in I to V phases, LP Padhy – head of the National Highway Authority of India (NHIA) regional office in Odisha – said that the upgradation of the ongoing projects in the state will likely be completed by March 2015.
