NMC’s revenue generation increases
Nagpur Municipal Corporation, which has been facing severe fund crisis, can breathe a sigh of relief as this year’s revenue collection so far has increased significantly compared to the previous year.
The NMC generated revenue of Rs 220.81 crore in the first four months (April-July) of 2012-13, registering a significant increase against the corresponding period in 2011-12.
NMC generates maximum revenue from Octroi. The town planning department collected Rs 42.73 crore in first four months while the property tax department collected Rs 18.19 crore during the first four months in 2011-2012.
The officials believe that the number of properties in the city is much more than 5 lakh presently estimated and with more effort from the ground stuff, more buildings can be brought in under its tax net.
