No land for garbage processing in Pune Municipal Corporation
Due to opposition from locals, the Pune Municipal Corporation‘s (PMC) efforts to decentralise garbage processing has halted with the state and civic body failing to acquire land to set up the processing units.
A civic official said, the civic body had forwarded 17 land acquisition proposals to the district collector and some were finalised by the state government. But they failed to acquire land.
Since no village in Pune district was ready to give land, the state government has told the PMC to take care of the garbage on its own, he added.
Since the garbage is bound to increase in future, the city needs to set up new processing units.
