NOC for 50 shops in Russell Market
Russell Market is back to life as the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagar Palike has issued no objection certificate (NOC) to BESCOM to resume power supply to the market.
Only about 50 shops have got the clearance for power supply, so far.
The 85-year-old market was ravaged by fire in February. The BBMP estimated a loss of Rs 1.5 crore in the region. BBMP conducted a survey and issued a notice ordering that the market should be demolished. But, traders were against it and the order was never executed and the market was restored by the traders putting in their own money.
However, the BBMP refused to issue an NOC for the power. Five months later, the BBMP has relented and agreed to issue the NOC, but only for 50 shops.
