Oberoi Realty appeals to remove forest tag from its plot

1 Comment Sub Category:Court Orders,Mumbai,Residential Real Estate Posted On: Jul 31, 2012

The state government of Maharashtra finds itself in the midst of an all new challenge – considering the application of a construction firm to divert its prime property at Mulund from forest to non-forest area.

Oberoi Realty Ltd made an application to the conservator of forests, Nagpur, to divert its 18-acre property on LBS Marg, Mulund, from forest to non-forest under the Forest Conservation Act (FCA).

According to sources, the land was bought by Oberoi Realty Ltd from Boroughs-Welcome. They have been planning a residential project on the plot. However, problems were faced when the plot was tagged as forest land.

The firm had challenged the government’s order applying private forest land tag to its plot to which the Supreme Court had ruled that the firm would need to apply under the FCA if it wanted its land to be diverted. Hence as per the direction, the appeal has been made by the firm.
