Odisha CM requests for Rs 2,000-crore allocation for PMGSY in fiscal 2014-15
In a letter written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik has requested for a Rs 2,000-crore allocation, so that the Prime Minister Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) can be effectively implemented in the State during the current financial year.
With a tentative amount of Rs 1,010 crore having been allocated towards PMGSY for the current fiscal, Patnaik has urged Modi to increase that allocation to Rs 2,000 crore. In addition, the Odisha CM has also requested for the release of the balance fund of the PMGSY scheme at the earliest for a smooth execution of the programme.
With the Central Government having tentatively allocated Rs 1,010 crore to Odisha under the PMGSY during 2014-15, Patnaik has pointed out that the allocation – out of which Rs 300 crore have been handed out to the State till now – is “not sufficient,” and has urged for an enhancement of the amount to “at least to Rs 2,000 crore.”
Other than increase in PMGSY allocation to Odisha for 2014-15, Patnaik has also drawn attention to the fact that an amount of Rs 17,814 crore has been sanctioned to the State by the Union Ministry of Rural Development since the inauguration of the scheme.
Patnaik said that, out of the sanctioned amount, the State has received and fully spent Rs 11,633 crore; while a balance of Rs 6,181 crore has not been sanctioned thus far.
