Odisha Govt seeks six new STPI centres; approval to proposed ITIR

No Comments Sub Category:Infrastructure,Realty News Posted On: Jul 10, 2014

The Odisha government’s Information and Technology (IT) department has requested the Centre to grant the State six new STPI (Software Technology Parks of India) units. The State currently has four STPI centres which are located at Bhubaneswar, Berhampur, Rourkela and Balasore.

The six locations which the Odisha Government has suggested for the new STPI units in the State include Jajpur, Sambalpur, Jeypur, Angul, Rayagada and Kalahandi.

The request for the new STPI units was recently put forth to Ravi Shankar Prasad – Union Minister for Communications & Information Technology and Law & Justice – by Pranab Prakash Das, Odisha’s IT and Energy minister, at a meeting in New Delhi.

Other than seeking six new STPI units for Odisha, Das also urged Prasad to give the go-ahead to the proposal to set up an ITIR (Information Technology Investment Region) in Odisha.

The ITIR – which will entail an investment of Rs 3,700 crore – is to be developed on an expansive land area of 10,210 acres. The high power committee of Government of India has already cleared the detailed project report for the ITIR.

Out of the total allotted area for the ITIR, 4,300 acres of land has been earmarked for a processing area, which will accommodate IT/ITes (enabled services), and research and development (R & D), and electronics hardware manufacturing (EHM) centers.
