Odisha govt to roll out MMSY to boost rural connectivity

No Comments Sub Category:Realty News Posted On: Sep 29, 2014

In a move which will improve rural connectivity within the state of Odisha, the Mukhya Mantri Sadak Yojana (MMSY) will be rolled out by the state government from its own resources.

The state government’s plans to roll out the MMSY are chiefly aimed at ensuring proper road connectivity to villages which have a population of less than 500 people. The move will specifically cover a total of 6,155 habitations which were left uncovered under Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY). The PMGSy covered villages with a population of 250 in Integrated Action Plan (IAP) districts and 500 in non-IAP districts.

With regard to the state government’s plans to give rural connectivity a boost under the MMSY, unidentified official sources have revealed that 20,000-km roads will be constructed by the state government. The total estimated cost of constructing the roads is Rs 12,000 crore.

The modalities of the MMSY scheme – for which Odisha had allocated Rs 150 crore in the 2014-15 budget – were reviewed by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik in Bhubaneswar on Wednesday, in presence of several officials, including Chief Secretary G C Pati.

Revealing that “the modalities for MMSY have been finalized” by the state government, Rural Development Minister Badri Narayan Patra sadi in a statement: “We are waiting for the Centre’s move to relax the PMGSY norms in terms of population. Thereafter, we would roll out the MMSY in the state.”
