Online property tax payment least followed in Hubli-Dharwad
The e-payment property tax facility introduced in Hubli-Dharwad 6 months ago has failed to create an impact.
The e-payment facility was initiated by the Hubli-Dharwad Municipal Corporation (HDMC) to make the system hassle free and people friendly. Most of the citizens prefer the manual method of paying their property tax.
The studies have shown that from the month of April-September 2012, there were only 54 people who utilised the e-payment facility and the rest 70,000 paid their property tax at the HD office. It was estimated that the HDMC collected Rs 89,733 through e-payment while it received Rs 19.33 crore through manual payment.
The main reason for this mere use of the e-payment was the lethargic attitude of the HDMC authorities in making arrangements to create proper awareness about the new system. It was also found that most of the citizens at the office were not aware about the e-payment facility.
