Online war of having the highest number of consumer database goes viral
Search engine optimisation, using the data used online for various other reasons are the trends which have picked up a lot in the last few years. Even the online players are borrowing listings from the rival sites to increase their respective databases. Hence if you have gone to one property portal, you will see that your inbox is full of property news and even the classifieds on the sites which you browse change according to it.
This is done in a bid to become the largest in their categories and attract funding. Only a few take consent of the advertisers. Players in the Rs 2,400-crore Indian online classifieds market confirm this trend. Kamayani Singh the communications and social media manager for OLX India stated that their users are often called by other websites and have complained to them about the same.
Not only small classifieds but large online classifieds players are also resorting to this practice. Sumit Jain the cofounder and CEO of CommonFloor.com, a property portal funded by Tiger Global and Accel Partners stated that this trend is picking up. However the Start-ups should certainly verify with an advertiser if s/he wants his/her ad to be placed on their website. Jain has a 750-member team, including ground staff that scouts for listings across India.
Jain also mentioned that they at CommonFloor, verify most of the properties they take on their website.
