Outer Ring Road project to miss deadline
One of the most ambitious infrastructure projects in Delhi, the signal-free road corridor from Vikaspuri to Waziarbad may miss its deadline. The four mini-projects related to the entire stretch, also known as the East-West Corridor, are also experiencing delays.
Public Works Department cite “environmental issues” as the reason for the delay. They are saying that they are looking to complete “maximum” work within the deadline.
Project involves Vikaspuri-Meera Bagh elevated corridor; Mangolpuri-Madhuban Chowk elevated corridor; Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk elevated corridor and Mukarba Chowk to Wazirabad signal-free project that involves construction of four flyovers at traffic intersections.
Around 26-27 per cent work has been completed on the Vikaspuri-Meera Bagh section, around 18 per cent on the Mangolpuri-Madhuban Chowk project, 20 per cent on the Madhuban Chowk to Mukarba Chowk elevated corridor, while 15 per cent of the project has been completed between Mukarba Chowk and Wazirabad.
A senior PWD official pointed out that the court did not allow cutting trees. In some cases, he says, this has affected the pace of the project.
