Parts of a new residential tower in Mumbai may be demolished by civic authorities

In a recent report, the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC) has revealed that civic authorities may demolish parts for a new 21-stoery residential tower in Parel, Mumbai.

The demolition of parts of the tower – built by realty developer Isa Enterprises – is seemingly imminent because of certain violations in construction.

According to the demolition-related details shared by BMC, the construction carried out by Isa Enterprises at the Parel tower was more than what the authorities had sanctioned for the residential project.

Due to the apparent violations made by Isa Enterprises, the BMC had issued a ‘stop work’ notice to the developer in April 2013. In connection with the work carried out beyond the approved plan, the BMC had the developer had violated the sanctions with regard to room measurements on the ground floor for the society office and meter rooms, as well as other measurements like staircase width, lifts and entrance lobby.

With violations of approved plan also having been found mandatory fire refuge on the 7th floor, service duct on the 14th floor, meter room, and 3rd floor parking lot, the BMC said in the report it submitted to the ward two weeks back: “The developer has constructed an entire 21st floor and part of the 20th floor without permission from this department.”
