Patwari Farmers agreed to the Hiked Compensation after GNIDA answers their Queries

About 45 farmers from Patwari, who had earlier decided not to collect the compensation, have now agreed to take the money and sign the affidavits. According to sources, this group of disgruntled farmers had filed petitions stating that Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) officials had not redressed their grievances regarding abadi land and other issues in time.

On Friday, after a group of officers met the resisting group of farmers and answered all their queries related to abadi land, many farmers decided to collect their cheques.

Having got some breathing space after the hearing of the land acquisition cases of Noida and Greater Noida farmers was deferred, the GNIDA has decided to utilize this ‘much-needed break’ to its advantage. The hearing was postponed by the Allahabad High Court on August 17. Senior GNIDA officers have kick-started a round of talks with farmers in order to bring them around. Of the 1400 villagers in Patwari, 1048 have already collected their cheques for the hiked compensation.

“A total of Rs 173 crore have already been disbursed to the Patwari villagers while 534 affidavits, signed by the farmers, have been submitted in the High Court,” said a senior GNIDA official. “We are now trying to meet a group of about 600 farmers who have refused an out-of-court settlement,” he added.

“We will try to meet each and every farmer who is unwilling to settle and will explain the benefits of the agreement to them,” said another official. Meanwhile, as per the Supreme Court directions in the Shahberi denotification case, builders have started releasing land back to the GNIDA but the farmers are yet to return the compensation money to the Authority.
