Pawar Speaks in favour of the Lavasa Project
The NCP chief Sharad Pawar seems to be extremely concerned about the growth of Maharashtra and mentioned that he supports the concept behind controversial Lavasa lake city project. He also mentioned that there are 26 unpopulated sites near water bodies in Maharashtra that could be developed on the lines of English tourist towns.
The project of Hindustan Construction Company was stalled for some years as there were agitations by a section of social and green activists against the project.
The former Union Agriculture Minister Pawar, who is said to have conceptualised the Lavasa project in the district, has been its ardent supporter despite various objections raised by the environment and social activists. He also mentioned that the lake city is now a tourist attraction and is visited by about 10,000 people every week.
Pawar was speaking at the 80th anniversary function of the Maharashtra Chamber of Commerce and Industry in Pune. He also advised the media not to give publicity to the negative campaigns which are against the growth of the nation. The elements opposed to development should not be publicised and Pawar stressed the need to change the mind-set to welcome new ideas. Pawar considers this project to be one of the successes during his regime.
