Payment of Commercial Taxes got simpler in Karnataka
CM B S Yeddyurappa on Thursday launched the e-payment service through which traders can pay their sales tax, VAT, CST and entry tax. The customer will no longer go through the hassle of using drafts and cheques for payment. Karnataka has become the first state in the country to introduce RBI’s e-payment system for commercial tax remittances.
The system introduced by RBI in collaboration with the state government enables dealers to remit their commercial taxes anytime, anywhere, without physically approaching an office of the Commercial Taxes Department (CTD).
As of now, e-remittance services will be made available in State Bank of India, State Bank of Mysore, State Bank of Hyderabad, Syndicate Bank, Canara Bank and Union Bank of India.
RBI deputy governor Shyamala Gopinath said the system, introduced in Karnataka on an experimental basis, will be extended to other states if found successful. CTD officials said e-payment will do away with manual hardship, delay in realization of amount and some cases of bounced cheques.
