PCMC fails to recover rent amount of Rs 7.25 cr
Pune- The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has failed to recover the rent amount of Rs. 7.25 crore from 1,555 shops over several years. This has come into light through the Right to Information Act response by the corporation.
According to an official, there are about 1,555 civic body shops which are either rented or leased for various organisations and individual owners. As per the land record’s expectations, they were supposed to acquire an amount of Rs. 8.96 crore as rent from Jan-Dec 2012. But they collected only Rs. 1.76 crore leaving behind a sum of Rs.7.25 crore to be collected.
The official further stated that the general body has increased the property tax for the year 2013-14 which should have instead been focused on recovering the rental arrears along with other charges from their own properties. However, a demand by the MNS has been made that there should be legal action taken against individuals and organisations for not abiding the terms and conditions of the rental/lease agreements for non-payment of charges on time.
The party has also demanded for the rental charges of all the properties in Pune city to be increased. They stated that the concerned authority should take legal action against the civic officials for not collecting the expected amount. It was told by the additional commissioner that the land records department have been given the instructions to recover the arrears through property seizing.
He also said that there were arrears of rental charges for the civic properties of about Rs. 8 crore out of which only Rs. 2 crore was recovered. This was followed by a process of recovering the remaining 6 crore being in process. Henceforth, the zonal officers are also directed to recover the amount by seizing the properties.
