PCMC Pune: Pay Property Tax before Aug 31 and get a Concession of 10 Percent
The general body of the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) had made a proposal citing that citizens paying property tax before August 31 will get a deduction on tax of 10 percent. This resolution was made earlier this month and was approved this Thursday. From the next financial year (2012-13) citizens will have to pay the advance property tax before June 30 to be eligible for the concession.
The meeting, presided by mayor Yogesh Behl, also approved a proposal to waive octroi on domestic Liquified Petroleum Gas (LPG) and bicycles. A resolution to reduce octroi on petrol and diesel from 2.5% to 1% was also approved. The proposals will now have to be approved by the state government. While owners of residential properties will get a 10% concession, those with commercial properties will get a 5% concession in general tax. The tax includes general tax, fire tax, education cess and cleanliness tax.
Another proposal, to grant a 30% concession in property tax to the slum dwellers who have been rehabilitated under JNNURM, was also approved at the meeting. As per the decision, the 30% concession will be valid for the first 10 years, after which it will increase to 50%.
Regarding unauthorised constructions, it was found that there are around 1.5 lakh constructions which have been termed “unauthorised” as the owners have not been able to produce the requisite documents about building permissions. The state government had directed the PCMC to give a detailed proposal about the various categories of unauthorised constructions in the municipal limits.
Meanwhile, a proposal for the exchange of plots owned by the PCMC and the Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation was also approved.
