Plastic-free wards will be rewarded with Rs 1 lakh, Mayor
At the BBMP Budget session on Wednesday, Mayor of the Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike, D Venkatesh Murthy, announced that all 198 corporators should take up an ‘andolan’ to ban plastic in their respective Wards.
He added that whoever is successful in this campaign will be rewarded with Rs 1 lakh. Though the Palike had taken up several measures to ban plastic, it had not been successful.
People should completely avoid plastic bags and start using jute bags. Awareness regarding the harmful effects of plastic usage has to be spread to the people.
Mahalakshmi Layout ward Corporator, M Nagaraj, said that action should be taken against the plastic production units.
Sunkenahalli ward Corporator, PN Sadashiva, said that plastic is being heavily used in marriage halls. So they should be warned not to use plastics and if they do not comply, their licenses should be cancelled.
